Yet Another Food Peeve

This one doesn't actually have anything to do with the business of eating. Well, it does, but not in some neurotic nutritional sense.

I just hate it when I cruise by a food site, like Epicurious, and see a photo of some apparently delectable foodstuff associated with this month's theme or holiday and there is no link to a recipe.

Just now, the aforementioned Epicurious (a site I adore) has a front-page link to its Valentine's Day pages with a photo of something like a tarte alsacienne loignon -- some kind of baked golden crusty onion-topped thing. I think. But I have no way to know because the photo is only a photo and after the front page shot, you don't see anything like it again.

(Actually, I just searched the Epicurious recipe files for tarte alsacienne and came up empty. The closest things were an 'Alsatian Cheese Tart' on puff pastry and 'Alsatian Onion and Bacon Tartlets' which might be the same thing but how would you know? That's particularly cruel.)

Likewise Food TV is fronting a link to its Valentine's Day content with a photo of some kind of cake. Cocoa, perhaps, not a dense chocolate thing. It is drizzled with a chocolate sauce and accompanied by a dollop of whipped cream, a sliced strawberry, and a sprig of mint. It looks wonderful. Does their listing of 'Decadent Desserts' include anything remotely like it? No.

I hate that.

Edit: a-HA. I found the onion thingus. Caramelised Onion Flatbreads with Creme Fraiche. Bastards. Why couldn't they have just linked that? Now, about that cake.
