27 October 2004 - 9:53 AM Missing Beans Yup, this is me, just happy-go-lucky all the time:
In the category of things that make you wonder, apparently dried fava beans are not to be had in the area. I phoned every high-end grocery (and some of the low-end ones) looking for dried fava beans yesterday, and no one even would admit to carrying them. 'We've never carried that,' sniffed the manager of one store, as though I had asked for a quart of goat's blood. Have fava beans gone out of fashion? Should I blame it on Hannibal Lecter? A vegetable in cultivation for at least 5,000 years, unavailable? Baffled, I am. Just baffled. Oh, and for Elsworthy, again: Retrosexual. | |
